Thanks for Another Successful Event!

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this past event such a success.

We are so grateful to everyone who donated. I wish we had a way to weigh all the donations so we could give you a statistic about the amount that is donated. I must say that we live in community a very generous with their property and time.

Here are the stats for our February 2015 event:

132 different volunteers
537 donated hours
Over 200 families blessed, including:

  • A young mom who just learned she is expecting twin boys
  • A family recently immigrated from Africa
  • Two college students moving into their first apartment
  • A family adopting a 7-year old girl
  • A single mom with two teen-aged boys who are quickly growing out of everything
  • A grandma who now has Easter dresses to send to her out-of-state granddaughters
  • The dad of an 11-month boy who is going to love jumping in his "johnny jump-up"

Start setting your stuff aside our next event coming up in August 2015.

Maybe Jim in Accounts Payable will finally get rid of that Hawaiian shirt he wears every single "casual Friday"

Be a GOT Heart Champion at your office!
Download the donations-oriented flyer to post in your office breakroom.
There's a place for you to enter your name and phone or extension, so co-workers will know you are the "go-to" person for donations at the office. Don't work at an office? Share this with someone who does!

Thanks for your willingness to help make the event successful.

Volunteer Sign-up Form

As you can imagine this event takes a lot of time and effort to put together. We need several volunteers to get things ready for the event and then several to staff the event, as well.

On Friday the 20th we will have three shifts of volunteers who will be helping to unpack donations, and then sort, arrange, fold, stack, and organize them.

The three shifts are 9 am - 12 pm, 1 pm - 4 pm, and 6 pm -9 pm. Child care for small children will be provided for the first two shifts.

On Saturday  the 21st we will have two shifts during the event. 8:30 am -11:30 am and 11:00 am to 2 pm. The first shift may have some last minute setting up while the second shift will have tear down and clean up responsibilities. Both shifts will include working with guests to help them find what they need, maintaining neatness of goods and clothing, and lots of smiling.

If you are interested in volunteering during the event or with the preparation for it, please use our Volunteer Sign-up Form. Thanks!

February 21, 2015 is our Next Event

Mark your calendars! Clear your schedule! You are going to want to be a part of this.

On February 21st the MN Gifts of the Heart event will take place from 9:00 to 12 noon at the Brooklyn Park building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (4700 Edinbrook Terrace, near the intersection of 85th and Noble in Brooklyn Park).

We are looking for donations and volunteers.

Donations should be brought to the church between 9 am and 7 pm on February 20th, however other arrangements can be made if you would like to donate before then. Just email mngiftsoftheheart@gmail.com and include your contact information, as well as an estimate of  how much stuff you want to donate (i.e., three shopping bags or two large boxes, etc.) We can give you an address to drop your stuff off.

This is a huge effort, so you can imagine we would like to have all the help we can get. On Friday we set up, sort, organize, label, hang signs, and, frankly, have a blast while we do it. We have three shifts each lasting three hours: 9 am -12 pm, 1 pm - 4 pm, and 6 pm - 9 pm. Please email mngiftsoftheheart@gmail.com if you would like to sign-up for a shift (or two!) on Friday the 20th.

On Saturday our volunteers help connect stuff with people who need it. We maintain the organization (folding and refolding clothes) and make the event as pleasant as possible for our guests. At the end of the event volunteers help to bag up leftover clothing and other items and prepare them for donation to a local shelter. We also break down tables and essentially undo everything we did on Friday. There are two shifts: 8:30 am -11:30 am and 11 am - 2 pm. Please email mngiftsoftheheart@gmail.com if you want to volunteer on Saturday the 21st.

If you have any questions, please refer to our FAQ page or email mngiftsoftheheart@gmail.com.
